For most users the Overlay type of image display is the best, it shows background information about where the picture was take and you can click/tap the left and right sides to move to the last/next picture which will have been preloaded to display quickly. The number of the picture and total number is also displayed along with the image name. Usually the total number of pictures in the 'gallery' is every picture on the page but I have an option to split the pictures into groups ie when there are several different places or subjects on the page.

Madeira Fireworks and New Year Festivities
We had been disappointed to hear from the Captain that the weather was too bad for us to anchor in Madeira and operate our tenders, in compensation we had longer in Gran Canaria. Madeira, particularly in the Christmas period is one of our favourite and we have written it up so many time before that we will not do so again.
The Fireworks however were what we came for. They stretch from side to side of the bay at Funchal in an arc of some 7 kilometres and we were moored in the the perfect place to watch, right in front of the main launching barge. 16 tons of fireworks are released in a coordinated ballet of light lasting eight and a half minutes. It is impossible to describe, one sees it and feels it, and marvels. The following video lasts from start to finish and says it all.
Gala Dinner
The festivities started with a gala dinner with a special dinner, complete with hats, in the Britannia Restaurant. the tables all had bunches of balloons and many more hung round the restaurant.
